URBAN HEAT ISLAND
Study Shows
Major Drop in Energy Demand and Heat Island Effect.
In August 2002 Dinyari Inc.,
conducted an investigation on the energy saving qualities of a
Carlisle “Cool Roof” system. The results showed more than a 60o
reduction in the temperature of the roof surface and almost a 50%
drop in peak energy demand following the installation of the “Cool
Roof”.
Dinyari choose the Carpeteria Store
in Sacramento, California for its case study. Davis Energy Group was
hired to conduct the investigation over a four-week period in August
and September of 2002.
Sensors recorded interior and roof
surface temperatures for two weeks prior to the installation of the
“Cool Roof” and two weeks following the installation.
The results showed a savings of
roughly 50% in peak energy demand following the installation of the
“Cool Roof”. Assuming 130 days of cooling per year this represented
a total saving of $1,950 per year for a 14,500ft2
showroom.
