Commercial Roofing in San Jose: Weatherproofing Your Silicon Valley Business

Here in heart of Silicon Valley we have some tricky weather issues to overcome. The area experiences a lengthy dry season from March to October, with lots of sun and very little rain. But from November through February, “winter” here takes the form of rain, rain and more rain. This Jekyll-and-Hyde weather pattern places a double burden on commercial roofs: They must be energy-efficient enough to keep the facility cool during the many months of sun, but they must also remain leak-free and well maintained in anticipation of the rainy season.

Smythe European Auto Dealership, one of the many San Jose facilities we have worked on over the years, had problems on both ends of the scale. The building leaked, visibly and embarrassingly, during wet weather while collecting puddles due to poor drainage, and uncontrolled heat transfer caused many of the buildings to run hotter than they should, wasting energy in the efforts to keep them habitable. We replaced old surfaces with a single ply membrane that dramatically reduced heat transfer (and energy bills). We also dealt with the leaks and standing water by building up uneven parts of the roof surfaces, repairing structural damage, and making sure the seams along gutters and shared-roof valleys were sealed.

Dinyari Incorporated also worked on the roofs of Silicon Valley legend Apple Computer in Cupertino. Their old EPDM roof showed significant wear, including multiple splits and leaks, and it transferred an unacceptable degree of heat. Not only did we solve Apple’s proof problem as handily as we did Smythe’s, but we managed to coordinate our roofing efforts with HVAC and lighting work to get the job done quickly and efficiently.
